A 16-year-old girl from Som Lalit School in Ahmedabad’s Navrangpura area is currently fighting for her life in the ICU after a tragic incident on Thursday. The Class 10 student reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of her school building during the lunch break. Despite the efforts of her classmates to stop her, the girl managed to break free from their grasp before leaping from the parapet.

The incident took place around noon, just as students were on their recess. A few students noticed the girl heading towards the parapet and tried to intervene. One student even attempted to hold her hand, but she pulled away, resulting in her jumping before any teacher or school staff could respond. The fall caused significant trauma, including severe head injuries, a concussion and broken limbs.

The student was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital by an ambulance service. Later, her parents transferred her to a hospital in the Thaltej area, where she remains unconscious and under critical care. Medical officials confirmed that she is suffering from serious head injuries and fractures in both her arms and legs.

The Navrangpura police have initiated a probe into the incident. A medico-legal case has been registered, and authorities are working to understand what led to this tragic act. Inspector A.A. Desai, who visited the hospital, stated that the girl was unconscious and in critical condition at the time. The police have not ruled out any potential foul play but are exploring all possibilities. They have planned to interview the girl’s family, friends, and teachers to gather information on her background.

Furthermore, the police are trying to obtain CCTV footage from the school premises to better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. This footage could offer crucial insights into whether there were any signs of distress or warning before the girl jumped.

At this stage, the school’s management, including Pragnesh Shastri, the managing trustee confirmed that the girl had been a student at Som Lalit School for the past five years. According to him, the incident occurred when students were away from their classrooms during the usual break time. Witnesses stated that multiple students tried to stop the girl, but she broke free from their hold before making the jump.

Although the police have not confirmed whether the incident was an attempt at suicide, the investigation is still in its early stages.
