AP: Can Postal Ballot Votes Be a Deciding Factor In Results?

We are done and dusted with the polling in Andhra Pradesh. The polling caught everyone’s attention due to the high voting turnout compared to the previous elections. In a few weeks, we will have a clear winner as the results will be out on the fourth of June.

The high voting percent hints that people reached the polling booths in big numbers to cast their votes. Not just the EVMs, voting polled through postal ballots are also quite high. The numbers doubled almost compared to 2019 as over 1,80,000 more votes were polled.

Looking at the data, 2,62,379 votes were polled in 2019. Cut to 2024, the numbers rose to 4,42,218. If we draw a comparison, there is a difference of 1,81,839 votes which is quite high. The observers say that the rise in employees who took part in election duties is the reason for this.

Postal ballot is a facility that allows employees who take part in election duties to cast their votes without missing. With the numbers getting doubled almost it is interesting to see who would get an advantage.

We saw some surprising scenes during the postal ballot as party workers almost touched the feet of employees seeking their votes. This is an example of the importance of their votes.
