If the BRS has managed to notch up at least 40 seats despite its rout at the hands of the Congress, then the party has to thank the BJP.

The BJP, which put up strong candidates in several places and launched a spirited campaign, has helped divide the anti-incumbency votes and help the BRS win in the urban areas. In most of the GHMC seats, where the BRS won, the BJP indirectly helped the BRS.
In Maheshwaram constituency, the BJP candidate, who polled as many as 99000 votes, pushed the Congress to the third position and ensured the victory of senior leader Sabitha Indra Reddy. But for the BJP, Sabitha would have lost in Maheshwaram. Similarly, BJP candidate Yeleti Annapurnamma helped minister Prashanth Reddy in Balkonda assembly constituency.
In the case of Karimnagar too, minister Gangula Kamalakar faced severe anti-incumbency. But the entry of Bandi Sanjay ensured that the anti-incumbency vote was split and the Congress was pushed to third place.
Another constituency where the BJP helped the BRS is Suryapet in the undivided Nalgonda district. In Suryapet, had BJP candidate Sankineni Venkateswara Rao not polled over 44000 votes, the Congress could have won the seat.
In several other constituencies too, the BJP’s increased vote share has helped push the Congress to third position. This also helped divide the anti-BRS votes and thus helped the BRS win the election with huge margins.
