The Lok Sabha elections which have the potential to change the political picture in the country are not that far away. All eyes are on the elections to see what would be the outcome of the much-anticipated elections.
BJP which won two consecutive terms wants to repeat another win. Narendra Modi already said that the alliance should win 400 seats and the BJP should win 370 seats. A big discussion is going on about this ahead of the elections.
As BJP wants to record a big win, the focus went on to the growth of the BJP. From 2 seats to 303, the BJP had a long history and a big journey. No one would have predicted that the BJP would reach the position it is now.
BJP was formed in 1980 and the party is seen as the successor of the Jan Sangh Party. In the 1984 elections, BJP won just two seats. Earlier BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that the party would blossom someday. The same happened later.
In 1980 BJP won just two seats with 7.74 percent votes. The next big jump the party saw was in the next elections. In the 1989 elections, the party won 85 seats. Taking this forward, it won 120 seats in the 1991 elections.
In the 1996 elections, the party won 161 seats, and 182 seats in the next elections. In 2004 it won 138 seats. In the elections, the UPA bounced back and came to power. BJP lost the elections and power too. In the 2009 elections, the party lost a few more seats and was restricted to just 116 seats.
Cut to five years, the BJP pulled off a big win. With former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the PM, BJP crushed the Congress and came to power. After ten years, Congress was defeated. BJP effectively used issues like corruption, scams, and family politics in 2014 and came to power with 282 seats.
Despite criticism and attacks from the opposition that BJP did nothing for the country, the saffron party won more seats than in 2014 as it won 303 seats in 2019. Now we have to see how many seats the party will win in 2024.
