The accident happened in the southern Amazon region shortly after the aircraft took off. The plane was carrying a large number of soldiers and crew members when it suddenly crashed, leading to heavy loss of life and many injuries.
According to officials, the aircraft was a military transport plane used to carry troops. Around 125 people were on board at the time of the crash. Reports say that at least 66 people have died, while many others were injured. Several injured passengers were quickly rescued and taken to hospitals for treatment.

The Colombian armed forces immediately started rescue operations. They sent multiple aircraft to shift the injured people to better hospitals in the capital city, Bogotá. Visuals showed injured people being carried on stretchers, some unconscious and some receiving oxygen support.
President Gustavo Petro expressed deep sadness over the incident and called it a very painful moment for the nation. He also mentioned that efforts were already being made to upgrade old military aircraft, but delays had slowed down the process. He suggested that officials responsible for delays should be held accountable.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was in working condition and the crew was well trained. Initial reports also ruled out any attack as the cause of the crash. However, the exact reason for the accident is still under investigation.
