Employees' Union Leaders Warned Government!
The employees' union leaders gave a warning to the government.
By: Tej | 14 July 2023 2:04 PM GMTThe employees' union leaders gave a warning to the government. They warned that protests are unavoidable if the old pension scheme(OPS) is not brought back. Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy met the employees and teachers union leaders. They said that they will allow the Guarantee Pension Scheme(GPS) at any cost. They demanded the implementation of OPS.
The union leaders mentioned that before the 2019 elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy promised to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme(CPS) and bring OPS. The employees are also demanding the same, they said.
But they have to know one thing here. The government will not restore OPS at any cost. It is gearing up to implement the GPS. The finance experts said that the pension burden will be more than the salaries with the OPS.
That's why the UPA government scrapped the OPS in 2004. It would be good if the employees discuss the pending pensions and arrears instead of standing firm on the pension system. They have to understand that there will be no outcome if they say they want OPS but not GPS. The pension system depends on the financial situation of the state. We have to say that the chances of restoring OPS are very less as the state is in debts.
This is not the case with AP alone. Many states in the country are facing the same situation. Opposing the BJP, a few states are bringing OPS in the place of CPS. However, the concerned Chief Ministers are saying that there is a big financial burden with this. Giving salaries is not an issue here. Giving pensions to retired employees is an issue here. If the employees' unions are very adamant about their demands, we might see another big protest in the state.
