As all the seats were announced it had become clear on who would be the candidates and who would get the tickets. Seniors like Ganta Srinivasa Rao were given tickets.
The list became a sensation as a controversial leader made it to the list. Former Minister Gummanur Jayaram who defected to the TDP from the YCP was given a ticket from the Guntakal seat. This is not his sitting seat. He won two last terms from the Aluru seat.
Despite this, the former Minister was picked as the candidate from the Guntakal seat. The decision is getting a lot of attention as the TDP cadres carried out protests in the seat against him.
The local leaders opposed the idea of picking Jayram who is from the other district. Earlier this month Guntakal saw tense scenes with the local TDP leaders staging protests. They held the placards and staged a big protest saying that they will not support him.
Just the reports of Gummanur Jayaram possibly getting the ticket led to big protests by the local leaders. Back then they asked why an outsider is being preferred by the leadership in granting the tickets.
Cut to a few weeks the same candidate was selected as the contestant for the upcoming polls. Now we have to see what the local leaders would do. A section of TDP supporters say that the TDP leadership took a big decision and it might backfire as well.
