With Covid spreading its wings, a lockdown was imposed and people became habituated to spend hours consuming the content.
Another aspect that helped in the massive growth of OTTs is the lack of censorship. There are no restrictions on the bold content that is pushed into. There are a few concerns on this and the Court also said that certain guidelines should be framed.
As a big step in this regard, the Union government said that it will frame the rules that will keep an eye on the vulgar content on social media and OTT platforms. The Union government told the same to the High Court.
Reports say that the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) filed an affidavit in the Delhi Court saying that it is following the orders of the Court and understands the concerns around it.
It is known that the High Court earlier stressed the need to have guidelines on dealing with the objectionable content and language used on the OTTs. The Court made these observations while referring to a web series.
Going into details, the popular YouTube channel TVF which is known for its engaging web series made a series named 'College Romance'. However, the language used in the series did not go well with amny and raised many eyeballs. The objectionable language used in the series made the Court angry.
