The much-awaited Asia Cup is fast approaching and all the participating teams are busy with the required preparations. Following this, the Indian squad for the tournament was announced with 17 members. The Cricket Governing body in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) announced the Rohit Sharma-led team for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Indian Squad For The Tournament:

Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.

The selection committee took some tough calls in picking the team. Tilak Varma who shined in the West Indies tour was picked and pocket dynamo Ishan Kishan was also given a chance. We have to wait and see how Tilak Varma uses the big opportunity.

The selection Commission made surprise decisions in picking the spin bowlers for the tournament by leaving out experienced R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and youngster Washington Sundar. Ashwin is a senior bowler who can also come in handy with his batting skills. Axar Patel is also a good bowler and a decent batsman. But leaving Chahal is also a surprise.

Talking about the inclusion of Ishan Kishan, it appears that the selection committee wanted to have another opening option. For the past few years, Rohit Sharma has been opening the innings for India with KL Rahul. Shubman Gill is in big form now and he is expected to open the innings. With Ishan in hand, the team might try new combinations if needed.

With Jasprit Bumrah coming out of the injury and shining in the ongoing Ireland series, it is good news that he was picked. He is going to lead the pace attack. Sanju Samson was picked as a stand-up player. If any player gets injured, then he would come in handy.

But the suspense on the number 4 position continues still. There is no clarity on who would be the best man in the spot. Adding more confusion to this, skipper Rohit Sharma said that no player should get a spot in the team based on the position he places for and the players should be able to play at any position.
