Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been sold to a powerful consortium including Aditya Birla Group, Times Group, and Blackstone for about 1.78 billion dollars. In Indian currency, this is roughly ₹14,700 crore.
This is one of the biggest deals in cricket history. The previous owner, United Spirits, decided to sell the team because it was not part of their main business. The sale shows how valuable IPL teams have become due to strong fan following, sponsorships, and media rights.
At the same time, Rajasthan Royals has also changed ownership. A group led by tech entrepreneur Kal Somani bought the franchise for around 1.63 billion dollars, which is approximately ₹13,500 crore. This is another huge deal and shows growing global interest in IPL teams.
Interestingly, both teams were bought for much smaller amounts in 2008. RCB was purchased for around ₹450 crore, while Rajasthan Royals was bought for even less. Today, their values have grown many times due to the IPL becoming one of the richest sports leagues in the world.
Overall, these sales prove that IPL franchises are now billion-dollar assets, attracting top global investors and turning cricket into a massive business industry.
