It's been a few years since Dhoni left his gloves in International cricket and the position as the finisher slot is yet to be fulfilled.
India tried a few players like pinch-hitter Hardik Pandya. But they are not as consistent as Dhoni was. As a middle-order batsman, Dhoni was very effective in the death overs and he had a good record of sending the balls to the boundaries. But India is yet to get a player of his caliber yet.
It appears that we have a question to this answer in the form of Rinku Singh. The left-handed batsman grabbed everyone’s attention with yesterday’s match. He scored 22 runs from 14 balls and took India to a thumping victory. His score would have been 28 had the six been counted.
In the high-scoring match, India required one run of one ball. Rinku Singh had sent the ball for a maximum. But the six was not counted as the ball was a no-ball. As an extra run is counted India won the match and the maximum was not included in his score.
Rinku Singh’s innings gave big hope to the Indian fans that he might be the next finisher in the Indian squad. We are already hearing comments that India might have won the match had Rinku Singh played the final instead of Surya Kumar Yadav. India lost the final as the lower-order batsmen could not score big runs.
Rinku Singh already made a name for himself as the best finisher in the IPL. He plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL and he helped his team win many matches. Looking at yesterday’s match, fans claim that India should play him often. T20 World Cup is next year and we might see him in the squad if everything goes well.
