When we talk about dominance in the world cricket, Australia comes to our mind. Winning as many as five World Cups is not everyone’s cup of tea and Australia did it. Not only that, it won three consecutive cups. No other team comes close to it when it comes to sheer dominance.

As an example of Australia’s dominance, the team did not lose the opening match in the World Cup since 1992. But India managed to break the Australia jinx in yesterday’s match. The heroics of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul helped India achieve this.

In the famous Chepauk stadium, India and Australia locked horns. Indian bowlers showed their dominance by restricting Australia to just 199 runs. As India has to chase the mear target of 200 runs many predicted that we will have a cakewalk in the chase given the depth in batting.

But Australia shocked India by sending three batsmen Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer early. A few overs into the match, the score was 5-3. Indian fans already got the bad dreams of the 2019 World Cup where New Zealand knocked out India.

In the 2019 match as well, India was five for the loss of three wickets. But Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stopped from this happening and took India to a big win. The two class players had a good partnership of 165 runs that helped India to emerge victorious in the first match of the World Cup it played.

We can understand the tough batting situations India faced while chasing 200 in 300 balls. It was the class of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul that paved the path for the victory. They did not give the Australian team another advantage. Though Virat Kohli lost his wicket in the 80s, the chase was in a gettable position. Hardik Pandya brought firecrackers in the last. KL Rahul played 97 and was unbeaten.
