Caught in Drunk Driving: Go Take A Broom And Clean

It is known that the party culture would have hit the peak last night as India celebrated New Year in a grand manner. In accordance with this, there were several reports of multiple drunken drive cases across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

In this context, a divisional court in Mancherial passed a very interesting judgement as the bench sentenced. Eight people who were caught in driving cases to catch a broom and clean a local healthcare facility.

Going into the story, the Mancherial court turned eight drunk drivers into reluctant sanitation workers. Caught by Naspur police for driving under the influence, the offenders were sentenced not to fines or jail time but to clean up a local primary health center. The District First Class Judicial Magistrate, D. Upanishadwani , delivered the offbeat punishment, ordering the offenders to lift garbage and tidy up the hospital premises.

Very interesting judgement from the bench has got the attention on social media. As people are commenting that this is the right and socially responsible way to people who are caught in this problematic case.

The Telangana government and the police department had been actively advocating against drunk, driving, especially in the context of New Year celebration. However, there was a major chunk of population who did not pay attention to the same, and they are now having to face the legal consequences for the same.
