Without any doubt, India is the biggest democracy in the world and this is the reason why other nations respect us. Since we got Independence India has been a democratic nation. We are not just a big democracy but also the longest-surviving one. No nation comes close to us in this aspect.
However, we have been hearing a lot that democratic values are being targeted in India after the BJP came to power. Adding fuel to this, the saffron party topped a few governments in states and came to power. The list of states in which BJP toppled the governments is very big.
On the other hand, there are serious allegations that the central agencies are targeting the leaders of opposition parties as they face rides and searches. If we look at the recent raids we might have to agree on the allegations.
Recently we have seen what happened in the Parliament. Close to 150 MPs were suspended from the Parliament when they questioned the government on the recent security breach. What happened to the opposition leaders in the biggest democracy became the talking point in the world.
If we look at the developments that happened in the country in the past few years, many say that democratic values are in question in the country. The actions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also raising many eyeballs. We saw this when the Parliament building was inaugurated by him.
While so much has been going on in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made some critical comments. He drew a comparison between India and China and said that India should not be compared with nations like China and they would be compared with only democracies.
Calling India one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, PM Modi said that India cannot be compared with China. What the Prime Minister said raised many eyeballs.
