The Supreme Court is the top court in the country. The Apex Court is in the news for a reason to celebrate by breaking the barriers and creating a space for a deaf lawyer to argue. During a hearing, a deaf lawyer was given an opportunity to place the arguments. An interpreter's help was taken for this.

Sara Sunny is a lawyer by profession, but she is deaf. When she tried to place her arguments in a case, interpreter Saurabh Roy Choudhary became the voice of her work. He interpreted what she wanted to say by decoding her signs and argued. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud permitted the same.

The case which is in the news now was argued via virtual proceedings. Sara Sunny and her interpreter took part in the hearing and placed their arguments before the top court. The development needs to be celebrated and welcomed due to various reasons.

This is dubbed as the first instance where Sign Language is used during the arguments and the lawyer placed her arguments with the help of the same.

Sara Sunny hails from Kerala, God's Own Country. She works as a junior with noted Supreme Court lawyer Sanchita Ain. When Sunny was asked to argue in the case, her interpreter appeared on the screen as the hearing was held virtually. But the control room which took care of the hearing process in technical matters said no to allow him to appear on the screen.

However, the Supreme Court Chief Justice of India countered this and directed the control room to give space for him, and with this Sara Sunny and her interpreter Saurabh Roy Choudhary appeared on the screen.
