Now the discussion has started about the kind of impact that AI will have on the domestic Indian market and this is what’s being said about an Indian IT giant.
The CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) addressed growing concerns about how artificial intelligence will affect software jobs during a recent AI summit.
He acknowledged there’s widespread anxiety because major tech firms around the world have announced layoffs, and many people wonder whether such trends will hit the Indian IT job market too. But his message was clear: there is no need to panic about AI wiping out all tech jobs.
According to him, AI isn’t going to suddenly eliminate every software role in the IT sector. Instead, it should be seen as a tool that boosts productivity by around 20 to 30 percent, enabling teams to clear backlogs, deliver faster, and work on more complex problems.
That increase in efficiency, he said, won’t automatically lead to mass job cuts. Rather than shrinking the workforce, AI will expand the scope of work by creating new opportunities in areas where automation and advanced data processing are needed.
He also pointed out that as AI adoption grows, demand for related infrastructure will rise. For example, new data centre capacity and specialised services for AI applications will be required, which could generate even more employment in the medium term.
In short, TCS’s stance is that AI will change roles and workflows in software jobs, but won’t replace humans outright and may ultimately create fresh avenues for growth.
