Thummala To Shock KCR!
Thummala Nageswara Rao made a sensational announcement that he will contest the next elections
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Aug 2023 2:36 PM GMTBRS chief, Telangana CM KCR is aiming to win the upcoming elections and achieve a hat trick of wins. As part of this, the party announced candidates for 115 seats. While there are 119 Assembly seats in the state, the candidates are yet to be announced for four seats.
However, it appears that KCR might face an early shock in the Khammam district. Former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy who can influence the Khammam district already left the BRS and joined the Congress. Along with them, a few other leaders also took the Congress route.
Now it's the turn of former Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao. Thummala did not find a spot in the list announced by KCR recently. Thummala, who hails from the Kamma community enjoys followers across the Khammam region.
Earlier, Thummala Nageswara Rao won the elections from the Sathupally seat in the Khammam district in 1985, 1994, and 1999 as a TDP leader. In 2009, he won the Khammam Assembly seat as a TDP leader. In the 2014 elections, he lost to Congress leader Puvvada Ajay. Thummala joined the BRS in 2016 and won the Paleru by-elections. He lost the elections from Paleru in 2018.
In the regime of TDP, he served as Major Irrigation, and Roads and Buildings Minister. Not just that, when KCR became the CM in 2014, he was made the Roads and Buildings Minister even without winning as an MLA. Later, he was selected as an MLC.
Thummala did not get any posts after losing the 2018 elections. He was not given any prominence. Thummala was also not there in the list of candidates. With this, he held a key meeting with his followers in Khammam. His followers reached there in 2000 cars. Amid this, Thummala Nageswara Rao made a sensational announcement that he will contest the next elections. He even said that his followers should not keep their heads down for him.
With this, it looks like Thummala might resign from the BRS. It is also said that he might join Congress. On the other hand, former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury is also inviting Thummala to the Khammam district. She said that she would have no issues if Thummala joins the party. Now a talk is doing rounds saying that he would join the Congress and would contest against Puvvada Ajay from Khammam.
