The opposition parties served no-confidence motion notices to the Narendra Modi government on the Manipur violence. As the Lok Sabha elections are next year' many felt that the no-confidence would help in pushing the Centre into a corner. But that did not happen and the Union government hit back at the opposition parties.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took the opportunity to table new bills which will replace the laws which have been effective since the British era.IPC' CrPC' and Indian Evidence Act are being used to serve punishments for the guilty of various crimes.

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)' Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)' and Bharatiya Sakshya (BS) Bills were tabled in the house by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Special focus was made on the crimes against women and the guilty would get heavy punishments.

Marrying a woman by concealing identity attracts a jail term of more than 10 years. The guidelines of the new bill say that marrying women on the false promises of job and promotion. Though having sexual intercourse with the help of false promises in issues like jobs' promotion' and marriage is not seen as rape' they would get a jail sentence of 10 years.

Talking about the other punishments' a gangrape offense attracts 20 years of jail sentence while an attempt to rape girls who are below 18 would get capital punishment. Similar punishments will be attracted in the incidents involving girls below 12. Life term or death sentence has been proposed for gang rape of girls below the age of 18 years.
