Leaders and parties who locked horns will not shy away from hugging the opponents if needed. This is part and parcel of politics. There is a popular political quotation “There are no permanent enemies, and no permanent friends, only permanent interests” which applies to any time.
This is proven again as a former cop who earlier contested against Balakrishna took the TDP route. Ex-MLC Mohammed Iqbal was with the YCP and contested the Hindupur seat in 2019 against Actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna. Cut to now he joined TDP in the presence of Chandrababu Naidu.
There was a big talk earlier that Iqbal will be given a preference again in Hindupur and he might get a ticket. But the party picked a woman as the candidate from the Hindupur MLA seat. Deepika is the YCP candidate for the 2024 elections.
Since then it has been reported that Iqbal is not happy with the party and might join the other party. Adding fuel to this, he left the party and resigned from his MLC seat.
Ahead of the elections, Iqbal gave a new twist and joined the TDP. TDP fans are confident that Balakrishna will win the Hindupur seat for the 3rd consecutive term. Now the former Hindupur contestant took the TDP route.
Iqbal is a known face in the region and his joining might increase the TDP’s winning chances in the upcoming elections.
What happened might not go well with the YCP which put a special focus on the seat and the leaders toured the region and tried to woo the voters. Amid this Iqbal joined the TDP before the elections.
