Amaravati issue no longer attractive to TDP?

There appears to be deep rethink within the TDP rank and file about the efficacy of the Amaravati slogan. Party insiders say that the TDP thinking heads are having second thoughts on whether Amaravati would be an electoral vehicle that will help the TDP ride back to power after a gap of five years.

Recent incidents have reportedly brought a re-think among the TDP leaders. The Amaravati protests are not able to muster the kind of support that they used to get earlier. Jagan government's decision to give land to the landless poor in the Amaravati area has created divisions among the people of the capital area.

In addition, there are persistent demands in Rayalaseema region for setting up of a high court in Kurnool. This feeling was clearly seen during Lokesh Babu's recent yatra in Kurnool district. Lokesh was forced to assure the locals that the high court would be set up in Kurnool city. The party is also forced to answer several unpleasant questions about the development of the Rayalaseema region.

The TDP thinking bosses and their election spin doctors feel that the TDP would be well-served if the leaders do not talk about Amaravati. They should focus on the welfare assurances that were given by Chandrababu on the lines of the YSRCP's Navaratnas to the people of the state. Thus, Amaravati has become a dead issue for the TDP these days.
