Is this why Modi does not want to align with Chandrababu?

Why is the BJP hell-bent on ensuring the victory of the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh? Why is it not responding to the many overtures of the TDP for firming up an anti-YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alliance in Andhra Pradesh? Is there more to the BJP's diffidence than meets the eye? Is it studiously shunning the TDP as part of a bigger game plan?

Political pundits say the BJP has a big game plan in not responding to Chandrababu's feelers. The BJP feels that if Chandrababu Naidu wins the 2024 assembly elections, he would work to wreck the BJP at the national level. In fact, his dalliance with the BJP was only for a brief period twice, once in 1999-2004 period and in 2014-2017 period. Rest of the times, he had worked with the anti-BJP camp. As a result, the BJP cannot trust the TDP.

The BJP feels that in the event of the BJP falling short of the absolute majority in the Lok Sabha, Chandrababu will immediately cobble up an anti-BJP alliance and will work to ensure that Modi does not come to power. In Chandrababu Naidu fact, e was the chief of the anti-BJP front when Devegowda and IK Gujral were made the prime ministers.

Hence, the BJP strongly feels that a pliant YSRCP is better than the Machiavellian Chandrababu Naidu. It feels that Naidu should be kept out of power this time. If that happens, he would not be in a position to play a key role at the national level. Hence, the BJP is rooting for the YSRCP despite Jagan's poor track record of governance in the state, say sources.
