Thousands Of NRIs Are Divorcing Their Wives!

Divorces and other matrimonial issues are being increased at a high rate in India. Not just the residents of the nations, but the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) are also creating issues for their spouses. In the past few years, divorces have increased. Thousands of cases are being reported every year.

In Parliament, the concerned Minister talked about the data on these divorces. In reply to a question, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that around 2300 people are divorced by the NRI divorces and as many as 2372 complaints are pending with them in this regard.

NRIs sending divorces to their respective wives is a serious concern. As they live in other nations the victims have to move the special cell against their spouses. Then they look into the issue and get in touch with the authorities in other countries and settle the matters.

Laws are different in western nations from ours and giving divorce to spouses is seen as a casual thing there. However the same is not the case here. There is a chance in culture and the special cells have to process with the authorities in those nations and then sort out the issues.

It is a lengthy process and takes a lot of time. More than 2000 complaints are lying unaddressed with the external affairs Ministry. couples living there also move the Ministry seeking their help. Even those complaints are also nor addressed and the victims are hoping for a speedy response.

Special helplines that run round the clock are active there, complemented by the counseling classes held by the authorities. However, they are unable to stop these issues and matrimonial issues. The authorities also help the victim with legal matters in divorces.

To talk about the divorce rate, a few years back the Government said that every eight hours they get a complaint in this regard. Back in 2018 the then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that a new Bill will be introduced in the Parliament so that the issues faced by the wives of NRIs will be addressed. It appears that issues will not be addressed till the bill is introduced.
