We Cannot Expect Lal Bahadur Shastris Morals Now!

Accidents in Railways are not new. However, the governments have been saying that the accidents have come down recently. They are also saying that they are stopping the attacks with the use of new technology. As the High-speed trains which we usually see in countries like Japan are running in India, many say that a new era had started in the country.

The Modi government has been saying that it is creating wonders in the Indian Railways by introducing new trains like Vande Bharat. Amid this, the Coromandel Express meeting with an accident had not only shaken the nation but the whole world. More than 300 victims passed away in this.

But who takes responsibility for the deadly accident? Who should be held responsible for this? But there is no answer to this. But Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw appears to be not thinking about this.BJP is in power at the Centre and elections are due this year. BJP might not take the risk of taking responsibility.

The trend of taking responsibility whenever anything happens in Railways was started by Lal Bahadur Shastri around seven decades back. History says he resigned twice not just once from his position. In 1956 a big train accident happened in Mahabubnagar district leaving 122 people dead. So he resigned from the position.

He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Nehru directly. But his resignation was rejected. Another accident happened in Tamil Nadu and 144 people died in this. Taking moral responsibility for this, he resigned from his position and sent it to Nehru. He did not listen to what others said and he took the responsibility.

A big debate happened on Lal Bahadur Shastri's resignation. When the same was informed to the members of the house, many said that he should not do that. But he said that it is his responsibility and he resigned. People remember his integrity and commitment to date. But they also say that it is not possible to expect Shastri-like commitment from current politicians. That generation is different from the current's and the current politics know how to cover things.
