Why 14 Reels Allowed Sarkaru Vaari Paata But Not Akhanda 2?
The production team posted a message saying, “With a heavy heart, we inform you that Akhanda 2 will not be released as planned due to unavoidable circumstances.”;
Fans of Nandamuri Balakrishna faced two major shocks within just one day. First, the makers of Akhanda 2 cancelled the paid premieres that were scheduled for the previous evening. This shows were completely sold out, and many fans were eagerly waiting to watch the film early. The sudden cancellation created confusion and disappointment. Before the audience could understand what was happening, another update arrived stating that the official release of Akhanda 2 had also been postponed.
The production team posted a message saying, “With a heavy heart, we inform you that Akhanda 2 will not be released as planned due to unavoidable circumstances.” Soon after, reports began circulating that old financial issues between 14 Reels and Eros International had resurfaced. These issues were connected to the losses from Mahesh Babu’s 2014 films 1: Nenokkadine and Aagadu. According to reports, Eros requested the court to stop Akhanda 2 until 14 Reels cleared those long-pending dues.
This created a major doubt among fans. If the problem came from films released in 2014, how did 14 Reels’ later project Sarkaru Vaari Paata release smoothly in 2022 without any legal trouble? Why was that film allowed, but Akhanda 2 was suddenly blocked in 2025?
The answer is simple. When Sarkaru Vaari Paata released in 2022, Eros had not taken any legal steps. There were no Section 9 petitions, no injunctions, and no claims that 14 Reels Plus was being used to avoid payments. Legally, there was no active enforcement at that time, so the film’s release was not affected. Eros waited silently for years and did not act.
But in 2025, the situation changed completely. Eros finally approached the court aggressively. They filed fresh petitions, claimed that 14 Reels Plus was linked to the earlier dues, and asked the court to block all revenue from Akhanda 2. The Division Bench accepted the concern and ordered that the film cannot be released unless the pending amount of around ₹27.8 crore along with interest is paid.
