Bollywood Is Back To Old Mode: No Impact Of Dhurandhar

We’ve seen this pattern before. One massive hit creates noise. Trade calls it a comeback. But the very next film brings things back to normal. Mid-range openings and heavy reliance on word of mouth. This is where the real issue lies. Yes, it’s about how Bollywood lovers claimed that the industry is back with a banger after the success of the “Dhurandhar” series, but the reality hits different.
Superstar Akshay Kumar’s latest horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, released in theatres last Friday. The film has collected around ₹65 crore nett in the first weekend without a holiday, and as per trade, that is solid. However, if we observe closely, this film is unlikely to cross ₹200 crore even with a clean run despite good glam support from Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and other cast. And that’s coming right after Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which shook the box office with ₹1800 crore+ collection. If that kind of mega success couldn’t lift the overall market, what will?
₹1800 crore storm on one side. ₹65 crore weekend on the other hand. That gap tells you everything. That means, Dhurandhar hasn’t revived Bollywood; only content should revive. A single blockbuster doesn’t fix an industry. It hides the gaps. The real strength comes when multiple films across budgets start working. That’s not happening yet. Bollywood just slipped back to the old mode where films are not working.
So now, the question is simple. Was Dhurandhar a revival… or just a reminder that only strong content can pull crowds, nothing else? Everyone knows the answer!
