Free screening of classics to mark cinema centenary

Free screening of nine southern classics started Monday here as part of centenary celebration of Indian cinema.

Satyam Cinema will screen one film a day. It has started with Tamil film “Aayirathil Oruvan” and over the next few days it will screen four Tamil, two Malayalam, two Kannada and one Telugu films.

"In order to bring in the celebratory mood, we are screening several yesteryear classics in a leading multiplex screen. Starting today (Monday), nine classics will be screened free of cost of the public in digital and celluloid formats," said a statement.

Other movies on the list are "Karnan" (Tamil), "Rickshawkaran" (Tamil), "Adimaipen" (Tamil), "Mayabazar" (Telugu), "Bangaratha Manushya" (Kannada), "Sangoli Rayanna" (Kannada), "Chemmeen" (Malayalam) and "Neelakuli" (Malayalam).

The main centenary celebrations will start Sep 21.
