Filmmakers Facing Difficulties With OTT Deals

With the closure of cinema halls due to the pandemic, most of the filmmakers flocked towards digital streaming platforms to release their films. Initially, the OTT giants offered staggering deals and bagged the rights of the several films of stars. With days passing, the digital platforms have changed their plans and are following their new stands.

As per the reports, the OTT platforms are not even considering the small budget films which don't have any star cast. Besides this, the platforms are following the instalment policy to pay for the filmmakers. The OTT giants like Amazon and Netflix are paying the amounts in three instalments.

Some of the platforms are delaying the payment process and even closing the deals with through pay per view process. With the imposition of several new rules, it has become problematic for producers to finalize digital deals for their upcoming films. In addition to this, they are adding a new rule that they will buy the film only after watching it. With this, selling a film for a digital steaming platform has become a challenge for the producers.
