Pawan Kalyan.. Mahesh Babu.. both are very big stars and we can't say who is bigger, as both of them command huge fan following and market. Both of them even compete in the aspect of delivering disasters and incurring huge losses to the buyers.
If we take Mahesh Babu's last five films, four of them are disasters and each film bettered the record of the previous film. His recent film 'Spyder' went on to create a new record in terms of losses. On the other hand, Pawan's films in the last two years turned out to be huge makers. Pawan's latest film 'Agnyaathvaasi' is going to beat 'Spyder' losses record with Rs.60+ crores as per the estimates of trade experts.
If we talk about the situation of disasters two-three years ago, any big disaster used to incur Rs.20-30 crore losses to the buyers. But the losses reached Rs. 50-60 crores now. What is the reason for this kind of losses? Exuberant prices of theatrical rights. Why are they selling rights in that manner? Because of the high budgets. If we probe further by asking another question.. Why did the budgets increase as the production cost didn't increase in that ratio? It is because of the increased remunerations. The heroes are increasing their remunerations without considering the result of their films, saying that their market has increased.
Pawan.. Mahesh are said to be charging around Rs. 25 crores for each film. If a star director is on board for their film he will charge around Rs.10-15 crores. As their movies will have top technicians and actors... the total budget for only remunerations will be around Rs.70 crores. If their film budget is Rs.100 crores, the production expenditure will be only 25-30% of the budget rest fo the budget goes to remunerations.
Irrespective of the story, the budget will touch Rs. 100 crores for their films. They are not even trying to reduce their remuneration to decrease the budget of the film. In such a scenario, buying the films of these superstars is turning out to be a gamble. If the movie gets a positive talk and becomes a super hit, the profits will not even cross 25%. If the movie turns out to be a flop, the losses will be around 50%.
As both these stars enjoy wonderful craze, distributors are blindly after them for buying the rights. If the movie turns out to be a flop, they are incurring huge losses. No one could say that how many days this trend will continue.
