The renowned multiplex chain INOX recently gave a press release which indirectly warns about the repercussions of having a digital release when the theatres have been shut down. This is because of Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's 'Gulaabo Sitabo' having a direct release on Prime Video which is creating a lot of tremors.
Responding to this indirect warning, the producers guild said that producers should exist if theatres need to thrive. They claim that producers are already facing a lot of losses and they need money to recover from that and make more movies. This clearly showed that they are not fearing these warnings from the multiplex owners.
Also, the theatres will not run on full capacity even after permission which will affect the result of a lot of films and especially the small budget flicks. They state that this condition will subside only if a few films are released directly on OTT platforms so that the producers can start to get money again.
But we need to see how many films will have an OTT release. If the producers find digital releases profitable, they may no longer be interested in theatre releases. Let us see what happens.
