Is "Superstar" Losing His Shine?

Update: 2019-02-02 09:42 GMT
Superstar has become synonymous to Rajnikanth in 90's all over South India. Thanks to Annamalai, Baasha that made his next films Muthu, Narasimha/Padayappa, Baba, Chandramukhi, Shivaji, Robot become big grossers. Except for Baba none failed.

Hence, when Rajni gave back some money to distribuitors to recover losses of Baba, many praised. Still, Baba collections were bigger than that year Blockbuster collections in Tamil Nadu.

That is the range of Rajni but the same Rajni is unable to deliver a good hit from a decade. His films like Lingaa, Kabali, Kaala, 2.0, Kocchadaiyan ended up losing money.

Kabali created records but that one film changed the equation for Rajni big time. Pa. Ranjith's caste based filmmaking damaged Rajni image and his new film, Petta also found itself effected by the movie.

Petta couldn't collect more than 60% in rival Viswasam film starring Ajith released for Pongal.

Fans are arguing on social media about which film has collected more but in core B & C centres Ajith's film has collected more than Petta, while Petta had considerable lead in Chennai and 'A' centres due to opening till recently.

The movie might end up making losses as it did not even gross more than 74 crores share Worldwide and it looks in last decade Superstar has lost most of his shine.
