Manu S Pillaiâs non-fiction book 'The Ivory Throne: Chronicles of the House of Travancore' gave the audio-visual rights to 'Baahubali' producers Arka Mediaworks. The book publisher Harper Collins has announced the same on Monday.
Released in 2015, the book runs with backdrop of times of Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, the last queen of the House of Travancore. Apart from the painter Raja Ravi Varma and his wife, the book also includes English agents, wife-swapping court favourites and lecherous kings. The House of Travancore was founded in 1729 and lasted till 1949. "Excited to have optioned @UnamPillai's work #theIvoryThrone! We @arkamediaworks are so looking forward to adapting this to screen! Its retelling of a very fascinating period in Indian history! Here's hoping we can do justice to Manu's 5 years of hard work!" Tweeted Shobu Yarlagadda.
"Just to add, we are mostly looking to adapt the book to original series and not a movie. Only a series can do justice to the depth and extent of the material in the book! #theIvoryThrone @UnamPillai" added Shobu.
