Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with film personalities few days ago. Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and many other distributors, producers met the PM of India to convey their problems due to GST.
As it is election time, the government reacted in favour of the film industry and cut down the GST on movie tickets.
Tickets priced under Rs. 100 used to have a GST of 18% and now they got cut down to 12%. Tickets over Rs. 100 used to have GST of 28% and now it is cut down to 18%.
The producers will have direct advantage of this as the share collections will increase. But theatre chains have promised to bring down the prices if GST is reduced.
That means those that add GST on ticket pricing will reduce the prices and those who adjusted it in the price before will not change.
Producers of Sankranthi movies would be eyeing this as a big opportunity to make good profits during the season.
