After scoring a sensational hit with 'RX100', young hero Karthikeya is struggling to find success. He did a lot of movies but failed to get a hit. He arrived with a different concept like 'Bedurulanka 2012'. The crazy promos grabbed everyone's attention and the movie has finally released after a lot of postponements. Let us dive into the review straightaway.

Story:

Bhushanam (Ajay Ghosh) is the most influential man in a village called Bedurulanka. He devises a plan to exploit the village people by using the fear of the world ending in 2012. He uses Brahmam (Srikanth Iyengar) who is a fake Baba and Daniel (Ram Prasad) who is a fake pastor. By believing them, the entire village puts their gold in these people's hands and does all the rituals they suggest. Shiva (Karthikeya) who worked in the city enters the village and doesn't believe a single word Bhushanam and his men say. He goes against them which results him in leaving the village. He even loses his love Chitra (Neha Shetty) who is the president's daughter. What will Shiva do now? Will he find a solution to this? Will the three evil men get taught a lesson? The answers to these questions will form the crux of the movie.

Analysis:

Many films start on an impressive note and engage throughout the first half but get derailed in the latter parts. When the end is bad, the whole impression on the movie gets spoiled. There are few films that start off in an ordinary fashion and run on the same note to a certain extent. But they pick up speed and impress you by the end. This leaves the audience with a good feeling and 'Bedurulanka 2012' belongs to the second category. This is a different film set in a village where people fear about the world ending in 2012. The journey takes off ordinarily but ends up being a crazy ride. The last 45 minutes turned out to be a laugh riot making 'Bedurulanka' a paisa vasool film. Until the crazy ride begins, one needs to have a bit of patience.

'Bedurulanka' deals with the point of people believing in superstitions too much and how a few are exploiting it. It is clever on the director's part to pick the island village as a premise. The way a conniving elderly man, a fake baba and a fake pastor form an alliance and deceive every person in the village is quite interesting. The director dealt in a very convincing way without giving any room for the audience to think about logic. But the flat narration and regular scenes in the first half bore the audience. Though a few scenes make you laugh, the first half is quite ordinary.

The second half too begins in a very regular fashion. When the entire village is against him, the hero leaves the village and until then, the movie does not offer anything special. But the movie picks up pace when the hero attacks back. The introduction of Satya and Vennela Kishore injects a new energy into the movie. The scenes where the villagers believe that the world has come to an end by cutting all connections have worked out really well. While Satya and Vennela Kishore are providing great comedy, the rest of the characters come in line too. Mainly, the character of Rajkumar Kasireddy dominates everything for 15 minutes. The crazy scenes and dialogues create a lot of fun. Though there are a few adult jokes here and there, the youth will not mind them at all. The way the makers showcased how the human behaves without any fear when he realizes that he won't live tomorrow is really nice. This craziness and speed continue till the end. The only speedbreaker during this period is a song but the rest is great. The first half of 'Bedurulanka' is below par and you have to sit through it in order to enjoy the crazy fun ride during the latter half. So, the choice rests in the hands of the audience.

Performances:

Karthikeya impresses as Shiva. His looks are a major asset and his screen presence is good too. He suits such interesting movies. He gave the story the first preference and looked like one of the main characters in the movie rather than a hero. He excelled in the key sequences of the movie. Heroine Neha Shetty provided a glamour feast in a few scenes. Her screen time is a bit less and she was just there in the second half for the name sake. Ajay Ghosh did supremely well in a major role. This is a character that will be remembered for a long time. Srikanth Iyengar did a very good job too and his acting surprises you in a few scenes. Ram Prasad entertains you. Vennela Kishore and Satya appear in the second half and provide a lot of entertainment. Rajkumar Kasireddy is the biggest surprise package of this movie. He sidelined everyone with his performance for a brief period. The director utilized him in an amazing way. The rest of the cast are okay.

Technicians:

Mani Sharma gave a new sound to this movie. He did not follow his regular style and gave something different that would suit the storyline. The background music gives us a new feel. The romantic song between the hero and heroine is good. The rest of them are passable. The cinematography is quite good as the visuals are very attractive. The artwork is decent too. The production values are adequate. They should be appreciated for making such a risky subject. Clax made his debut with a very different attempt. He is very much able to provide good entertainment but his narration is a bit slow. He failed to maintain pace in the first half. The movie lacked a gripping screenplay but he scored major points both as a writer and director during the second half.

Verdict: 'Bedurulanka 2012' – Stars Off Lazily But Ends Crazily!

Rating: 2.5/5
