This is the high-profile summer season where more audience tend to go towards the theatre to enjoy air-conditioned halls with terrific sound systems and lovely ambience. And usually in Summer, even average films get very good footfalls and revenues. However, this time, it looks like the audience has changed or the movies are not even entertaining them, as the screens are staring at empty seats.

Last Friday, we had three Telugu films released. One is a youthful love story Godari Gattupaina, directed by a short filmmaker who made more than 100 short films and introduced the likes of Raj Tarun and Chadini Chowdhary to the digital world. The film has collected around ₹3 crores in the first three days, but on Monday, the footfalls are not even 5% in most of the theatres. The same is the case with Lavanya Tripathi’s Sati Leelavati. After coming to know that the film is all about a husband’s extra-marital affair and how the heroine tries to save her marriage, many lost interest, if talk on Twitter is anything to go by. On Monday, this film also hasn’t register any decent collection.

Don’t even ask about Ravibabu’s Razor movie, because the film didn’t get openings first, and by Saturday itself, it is a washout, and by Monday, shows have already been cancelled.

For the Telugu audience who want to spend time in theatres, Hollywood movies like Michael and Mortal Kombat II have become the go-to options, while lots of urban centres witnessed huge Telugu crowds for the film The Devil Wears Prada 2 as well. Undoubtedly, Mondays are always an acid test for films, and May 11th is the hardest ever in recent times, especially the worst one for the summer season.
