Khalnayak was not just a film. It was a moment. Sanjay Dutt as Ballu, Jackie Shroff on the other side and director Subhash Ghai at his peak. That film defined the anti-hero space for its time. while songs and hero’s attitude clicked bigtime back in the early 90s. Cashing on that craze, the makers now want to bring out the film “Khalnayak Returns” and that sounds quite foolish. Well, here’s what it looks like if we analyse.

After almost three decades, if you’re rebooting the sequel as “Khalnayak Returns” its nothing but purely cashing on the title. The audience that went mad for Khalnayak in 1993? They might be teens then, aged between 15-20, but now, 33 years later, they are fully grown up, and have different priorities and entertainment consumption habits. What about the current movie-watching generation, the hyped Gen Z They don’t have any emotional connection to this title. For them, it’s just another old film reference. So why would the movie work out now?

Back then, the “villain as hero” concept felt fresh. Today, it’s everywhere. Every second film has grey characters, anti-heroes, darker arcs and likes of Arjun Reddy and Animal took it to the next level, while Dhurandhar played on a new level. What was bold in the 90s is basic now. So, a sequel coming of that particular story will not even excite the audience. Right now, Khalnayak Returns has the title, so hope, they will have a story too. Otherwise, the hype is all just false.
