In the last week of December, the Telugu film industry is raining with some biggies, including Nagarjuna Akkineni’s iconic 100th film titled King100 and then Balakrishna’s Dada movie being directed by Gopichand Malineni. While Balakrishna is coming on the 24th, Nagarjuna’s movie is hitting cinemas on the 25th. Amidst these films, Kiran Abbavaram’s Reality joined the 25th race and is now the film observers' focus.
At a time when biggies like Dada and King100 are there, usually distributors and exhibitors compete to get those films into their hands. They spend exorbitant sums to own the rights and release the movies. But amidst these biggies, right now some distributors are running after “Reality” and that’s what surpsing everyone. It looks like some distributors are feeling that rather than investing big on a big film and face the risk of recovery, it’s better to invest in a film that demands a reasonable budget. This is because Kiran Abbavaram’s films are giving some safe recovery; even the profits don’t near big films when they explode big.
On the other hand, big films coming on Christmas eve are all about action, hype and a larger-than-life image, while Kiran Abbavaram’s Reality is a family drama with lots of relatable content. Probably that’s also making distributors bet big on this small movie and take it big into the market. With two months to go, we have to see how the stakes will be raised.
