Even the tallest trees can wobble in a sudden gust, and right now, Mohanlal is feeling that shake. The Malayalam superstar, loved for decades, is caught up in a legal storm over two pairs of ivory tusks at his home. He had shown permission papers from the government before, saying everything was legal. But the Kerala High Court recently canceled those ownership certificates, asking hard questions about how the government gave permission in the first place.
This case isn’t new. It’s been hovering over him for 15 years. Back in 2012, officials found the tusks during a search at his house. An FIR was filed under the Wildlife Protection Act, saying that keeping elephant tusks as decoration was illegal. Mohanlal explained that the tusks came from dead elephants and that he had the government’s approval. Even so, the case dragged on with petitions and court hearings stretching for years.
Recently, Mohanlal tried to get the case quashed, hoping the court would close it. That didn’t happen. Instead, the court pointed fingers at the government, saying permissions shouldn’t have been given like that. The ownership certificates issued by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in January and April 2016 were canceled. Related government orders were also nullified. It’s a setback for Mohanlal, even if the court didn’t directly accuse him of breaking the law.
This ruling shows that wildlife laws are strict, and famous names don’t get a free pass. Mohanlal now has to deal with the legal mess carefully. For everyone watching, it’s a reminder that even small slip-ups in law, especially around protected wildlife, can spiral into a big storm.
