Telugu Filmmakers Calling 'Obsession' Short Film
However, ever since the film started to get attention in India as well, for being made on a shorter budget of ₹6-7 crores, and still succeeding to engage almost all of the world
Directed by a YouTuber, the film “Obsession” was released almost a year after it debuted at several film festivals last year. Upon its release, the movie received immense appreciation from all quarters and especially Western youths are going gaga over it. However, ever since the film started to get attention in India as well, for being made on a shorter budget of ₹6-7 crores, and still succeeding to engage almost all of the world, it looks like some Telugu filmmakers, who are activists on social media, are not happy about it.
In what could be seen as a jealous take on the super-hit Hollywood horror and psychological thriller ‘Obsession’ movie, some Telugu filmmakers who are talking about it on social media are calling it short-film content that clicked with youth. Rather than examining the facets of why and how it became the epic blockbuster of ₹2000 crores, some Telugu filmmakers are writing it off. That’s where TFI is failing and falling, is what many film lovers on social media have opined after going through such comments. Many filmmakers are saying that Obsession was shot only in 2-3 locations; it's more like a short film, and the film has very limited actors. Well, who asked you not to make films like that? Is there any hard-and-fast rule that every film should have a world like Baahubali?
At a time one film is doing extremely well, definitely we have to study why it worked. When we could collectively hail a film like Dhurandhar, which is made with ₹250 crore budget, here Obsession is making ₹2000 crore and was made with only a $1 million budget almost 2 years ago. So we need to study this as well in order to make good films and make sure that the box office runs well all the time, such that the film industry will be healthy and healthy.
