After Attarintiki Daredi, fans feel that Power Star Pawan Kalyan has not given them a film that truly matched their expectations. Even Harihara Veeramallu, released just two months ago, left them disappointed. But hopes were pinned on They Call Him OG, with fans believing it would finally fill that gap. Now, Ojas Gambhira has reached theaters, and the wait is over. The big question remains, how did director Sujeeth present his favorite hero this time? Did he give fans what they wanted? And did OG live up to the massive hype? Let’s take a look.

Story:

Ojas Gambhir, also known as OG (Pawan Kalyan), is an orphan. He grew up with a samurai group in Japan, where he learns martial arts. Later, due to unexpected events, he came to Mumbai as a refugee. During that time, Satya Dada (Prakash Raj) treats OG like his own son after OG protects his wealth. Satya Dada builds a port in Mumbai, giving jobs to thousands of people, and OG becomes his main protector. But for some unknown reason, OG distances himself from Satya Dada and leaves Mumbai, not returning for over ten years. Things change when mafia don Omi Bavu (Emraan Hashmi) creates problems for Satya Dada’s family and the port. This forces OG to return. Who is Omi, and what does he want? What danger is Satya Dada facing? Can OG defeat Omi and save everything? The rest of the story answers these questions.

Analysis:

Every fan dreams of how their hero should look on screen. But what if such a fan becomes a director and gets to make a film with his favorite hero? Naturally, he will try his best to show the hero in the most powerful way, create goosebump moments, and give fans plenty to celebrate. There is nothing wrong with that. But along with hero elevations, if the story also has strength, the result becomes even more magical. Looking at the promos of OG, it was clear that Sujeeth tried hard to present Pawan Kalyan from a fan’s point of view. However, what matters more is how the film works beyond the fan base, and here Sujeeth stumbles. His effort is visible, but the story falls into the regular “gangster drama” mold. It feels like something we have seen many times before, with no freshness.

The film focuses almost fully on highlighting Power Star with elevations and stylish action. Fans will enjoy the stylish look, the explosive intro, and the goosebump interval block, which stands out as the film’s biggest highlight. Though these moments are not new, they still excite the mass audience. Sujeeth, the cameraman, and Thaman deliver strongly here. Even the police station sequence from the teaser lives up to the hype. But if the same tempo had continued, the film could have reached another level.

The second half slows down, and the drama between hero and villain feels weak. The villain’s role does not look strong enough, and the twists don’t surprise. The RDX container track drags after a point, and the story lacks weight to carry such a big action film. The climax fight looks stylish but is not explosive. Overall, OG works as a full treat for Pawan Kalyan fans with nonstop elevations and action, but for the general audience, it feels routine and less impactful.

Performances:

After his re-entry into the movies, Pawan appeared in the most stylish and best looks in the movie in OG. Overall, this can be said to be one of the films in which Pawan appeared the best in his career. His screen presence in the serious role of Ojas is very good. Unlike the hide-and-seek scenes in ‘Harihara Veeramallu’, the action scenes on Pawan have been made to seem a little believable. Power has also put in a good effort. Pawan Kalyan’s performance in some episodes, including the police station scene, is impressive. Pawan Kalyan has given his fans what they want with this film.

Priyanka Arul Mohan has done well. The film answers those who doubted whether her pairing with Pawan would work. Despite having a short role, Priyanka has shown her worth. Emraan Hashmi looked super stylish in the role of the villain. But the role does not seem as powerful as the buildup given to the role in the beginning. But Emraan tried to show his uniqueness in every scene. Another villain, Sudev Nair, impressed. Prakash Raj excelled in a key role as Satya Dada. Arjun Das’s role is disappointing. Its impact is not seen much in the film. Shriya Reddy did well in the role of Geetha. She made her presence felt in every scene she appeared in. Tej Sapru, Upendra Limaye, and all the other actors are ordinary.

Technicians:

If Pawan Kalyan is the hero on screen in OG, then the real star behind the screen is Thaman. From the very first minute, it becomes clear why Thaman confidently said OG is his reply to movies like Jailer and Leo. His background score is powerful, stylish, and gives the audience goosebumps. The songs and BGM blend well and keep the tempo high. Especially in the hero elevation scenes, Thaman’s music takes the impact to another level.

Ravi K. Chandran’s cinematography is another strong asset. The visuals are rich, stylish, and perfectly match Sujeeth’s vision. The film looks grand with no compromise on production values. Director Sujeeth clearly focused on presenting his favorite hero in the most stylish way, giving him strong elevations and action-packed moments. In this part, he has succeeded. His taking and the way he shot action episodes are impressive.

But when it comes to the story, there is not much freshness. The narrative feels uneven, and the drama does not reach the expected depth. Unlike Saaho, which at least had many twists and surprises, OG falls short in that area. This lack of novelty in the story leaves some disappointment despite the stylish presentation.

Verdict: OG.. Peak elevations.. Weak execution

Rating - 2.75/5
