Peddi, Karuppu & Drishyam 3: Same Result Everywhere

Ram Charan’s Peddi has released last week, and the film already grossed a little over ₹300 crores. Even the recently released movies like Suriya’s Karuppu and Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 also touched the mighty ₹300 crores mark. But that’s not the only similarity between these three movies, there is another loud and clear aspect that these films have proved about South Tinsel Towns, and that’s something scaring some filmmakers now.
Drishyam 3’s dubbed version released in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada as well, but the film washed out in a week itself. In Telugu, the Mohanlal starrer collected a couple of crores, before being ended up as a dud. Same is the case in other tinself towns too. At the same time, Suriya’s Karuppu was released in Telugu as Veera Bhadrudu but the film collected only ₹30+ crores gross here, while it touched nearly ₹250 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. Now coming to Peddi, this film is also not making good money from the Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam market, though the Bollywood gross might touch ₹30+ crores very soon. However, the film ended up making more than ₹300 crores gross already. That means all these films have done exceptionally well in their local circuits, but failed in other states.
That’s a very stunning result, but then, if films are losing their Pan-India and Pan-South India appeal, surely that’s something the makers should make a note of. Rather than saying that every film is a pan-India movie, they should honestly make the movies for their local crowds first, and then it might appeal to other tinself towns also if the emotions are universal.
