"Why Create Tension Before Peddi Release?": Ravi Shankar
Producer Ravi Shankar said it was not right to create pressure and panic before the release of a big film like Peddi.
The ongoing discussion about the problems in the Telugu film industry has now become a major topic. Recently, exhibitors from Telangana demanded the implementation of the percentage system in single-screen theatres. They said theatres are facing huge financial problems and asked producers to support the new system.
In response, Telugu film producers held a press meet this evening to share their side. Producers like Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar, Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, Sahu Garapati, Sudhakar Cherukuri and Venkata Satish Kilaru attended the interaction with the media.
Producer Ravi Shankar said it was not right to create pressure and panic before the release of a big film like Peddi. He questioned whether it was fair to “blackmail” producers just before an important release. According to him, all sectors in the film industry are facing difficulties, not only exhibitors.
He explained that producers, distributors, and exhibitors have worked together for many years as one system. But today, every section is struggling financially. He said the issue cannot be solved overnight and everyone must sit together and discuss possible solutions calmly.
Ravi Shankar also said that many single-screen theatres still do not have proper facilities. He pointed out problems like poor sound systems, unclean toilets, and outdated infrastructure. He felt that audiences would return to theatres only if the viewing experience improved.
Producer Sahu Garapati also questioned exhibitors over ticket pricing. He asked how theatres could refuse ticket price hikes even after receiving government approval. According to him, such statements go against government decisions.
The producers made it clear that they are ready to support exhibitors, but the problems faced by producers and distributors should also receive equal attention. They stressed that one-sided press meets and warning statements would only increase tension in the industry.
