There was a time in Film Nagar when Potluri Vara Prasad, aka PVP, was one of the most talked-about producers in Tollywood. After entering Telugu cinema with Ravi Teja’s film Balupu, PVP quickly built a strong image with films like Kshanam, Oopiri, Brahmotsavam, and Maharshi. However, more than these films, he was known for his legal tussles with the likes of Mahesh Babu, as well as Bandla Ganesh. And after some time, he simply vanished from the production circuits.
Talking about his sudden exit from the film circuits, PVP said, “There may not be a worse business in the world than film production itself. Even after putting in money, a producer has to face humiliation a lot, and that makes no sense”. Well, this is said by many earlier who wanted to run the film industry like a corporate industry. PVP said producers are treated like jokers on film sets. The person investing crores into the project becomes the easiest target for mockery, while everyone else walks away safely if the film fails. According to him, if a movie fails at the Box Office, it is only the producer who lands on the road without a penny, but nobody truly worries about that producer.
Speaking about his old dispute with Bandla Ganesh during the Temper movie, PVP clarified that he was only the financier of the film and had lent money professionally at an interest rate. However, problems arose when it came to recovering money. He asks, “Why should someone be humiliated for trying to recover their own money?”
Well, there’s talk that when the likes of Mahesh Babu refused to do a film with Vamsi Paidipally in his PVP Pictures Banner, the producer even tried to knock on the doors of the Court, that’s why for Maharshi, both Dil Raju and PVP became the producers alongside Ashwini Dutt.
