Rumours, you know, have this funny way of catching fire. One spark, and suddenly everyone’s talking. That’s pretty much what happened with Kaantha, Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film, when chatter started that it was secretly based on the life of old Tamil legend M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. Just a few days before release, the movie got dragged into a legal mess, and people began to wonder what’s really going on.

B. Thiagarajan, the veteran actor’s grandson, filed a complaint in the Chennai Civil Court saying Kaantha used his grandfather’s story without permission. He even claimed the film painted him in a bad light. That alone was enough to get social media buzzing. Fans started guessing if the movie would be delayed, since the release date, November 14, was almost here. It was chaos for a bit.

But then Rana Daggubati stepped in. Calmly, directly. He shot down the rumours saying the whole thing was baseless and that Kaantha isn’t based on any real person. “It’s pretty baseless, the film has no real reference at all. See you in cinemas Nov 14th,” he replied to a fan on X. And that was that, clean, simple, and clear.

Rana even added during a fan chat that Kaantha is only “inspired from an era” but otherwise a completely fictional story. No borrowed lives, no hidden truths, just cinema doing what it does best. With Dulquer leading the show and Rana backing it, Kaantha seems all set to glide past the noise and hit theatres this Friday as planned.
