Ranbir Kapoor In Trouble As Human Rights Panel Action Demand
The NHRC is preparing legal action against Ranbir, the filmmakers, and the OTT platform for allegedly violating India’s Electronic Cigarette Prohibition Act.;
A single scene has stirred controversy for Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor. The actor appeared in Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut series Bads of Bollywood as a guest, and a scene showing him using an e-cigarette has drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The NHRC is preparing legal action against Ranbir, the filmmakers, and the OTT platform for allegedly violating India’s Electronic Cigarette Prohibition Act. A notice has been sent to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, questioning how Netflix showed banned products without proper warnings. A complaint filed by the Legal Rights Observatory claims that showing Ranbir using an e-cigarette without disclaimers misleads young viewers.
Officials say such content could encourage the use of banned substances and promote illegal activity. NHRC member Priyank Kanungo told the media, “According to the E-Cigarette Prohibition Act, no one should promote e-cigarettes. Manufacturing, importing, selling, and storing them is an offence. We have asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to register an FIR and take legal action against the actor, production company, and OTT platform.”
Ranbir Kapoor and the production team are under scrutiny for promoting e-cigarettes. The incident highlights that digital content must follow the law and act responsibly.
