One role not enough? In Telugu cinema, it never is. The fascination with double roles goes way back — all the way to 1917 when Salunke played both the hero and heroine in Lanka Dahan. Since then, dual avatars have thrilled audiences, from Akkineni Nagarjuna in Hello Brother to Megaster Chiranjeevi in Rowdy Alludu, and Nandamuri Balakrishna in Chennakesava Reddy. Now, in 2025, this legacy is making a stylish return with a line-up of high-voltage double-role dramas.
Nandamuri Balakrishna, who roared in two roles in Veera Simha Reddy and Akhanda, is all set to level up in Akhanda 2: Tandavam. This time, he plays Murali Krishna and Akhanda Rudra Sikander Aghora — an intense combo that’s already got fans hyped. Meanwhile, Prabhas will be seen in The Rajasaab, playing both a powerful grandfather and his dynamic grandson under director Maruthi’s vision.
Joining the double-role club is Allu Arjun, who’s gearing up for a sci-fi socio-fantasy with Tamil director Atlee — marking his first time playing two characters in one film. Also returning with dual magic is Nandamuri Kalyan Ram in Bimbisara 2, the prequel that fans are eagerly waiting for. Not to be left behind, Vijay Deverakonda is set to portray both father and son in Rahul Sankrityan’s period action saga based in Rayalaseema.
And it’s not over yet — Jr NTR, after making waves with Devara, is reportedly returning with Devara 2, expected to feature him in double roles once again. As Telugu cinema keeps pushing boundaries, these upcoming films promise to bring audiences double the thrill, double the emotion, and definitely double the fun.
