There was once a time when the Adult certificate issued by the censor department was largely despised by filmmakers. This meant that the family audience stayed away from theatres and this wasn’t what makers were hoping for.

But that’s not the case now as it appears Tollywood has stopped to bother about the adult certificate henceforth. Violence has slowly become a fashionable element in today’s cinema. No matter what certificate the censor board gives, many directors are not stepping back from showing extreme brutality on screen.

Films like Akhanda, Animal, Salaar, and Hit 3 clearly reflect this growing trend. While action and conflict are important for storytelling, excessive violence often crosses the line and turns disturbing for viewers.

Some scenes in recent movies are so graphic that they create fear instead of excitement. Bloodshed, brutal killings, and intense aggression are shown in great detail, sometimes without a strong narrative need.

Instead of supporting the story, such scenes feel designed only to shock the audience and create hype. This raises an important question about responsibility in filmmaking.

Cinema has a strong influence on society, especially on young audiences. When violence is repeatedly glorified, it risks normalizing aggression and reducing emotional sensitivity. Not every powerful film needs extreme brutality to leave an impact.

Many classic movies proved that strong emotions, performances, and storytelling can engage viewers without excessive violence.

Censor certification alone may not be enough. Filmmakers also need to exercise self control and think about the message they are sending. As audiences, expressing concern and encouraging balanced content is equally important. Cinema should entertain, inspire, and provoke thought, not fear.
