After failures like 'Ghani', 'Gandheevadhari Arjuna' and 'Operation Valentine', Varun Tej is working on a period drama named 'Matka'. There was talk about the movie getting shelved due to budget issues but everything fell into place gradually. The makers have officially announced that Mega Prince Varun Tej has returned back to the set to bring retro magic once again. This new schedule has recently begun and the team erected a massive set in Hyderabad to film the key portions.
Along with the update, the makers released a poster where we can see a person holding a vintage landline telephone. Varun Tej plays a very powerful character and 80s fashion is going to be huge in this film. The story takes place between 1958 and 1982. A Kishore Kumar has succeeded in recreating the milieu from the 50s to the 80s through his cinematography.
'Matka' is based on a real incident that shook the entire nation. Varun Tej will appear in four different get-ups in the movie, as the story spans 24 years. Meenakshi Chowdary is the female lead in this project while Nora Fatehi plays an important role. The rest of the cast includes Naveen Chandra, Kannada Kishore, Ajay Ghosh, Mime Gopi, Roopalakshmi, Vijayrama Raju, Jagadeesh, Raj Thirandas and others.
Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala of Vyra Entertainments is producing the movie, in association with Rajani Talluri's SRT Entertainments. Karuna Kumar who made 'Palasa 1978' and 'Sridevi Soda Center' has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for this movie apart from being the director. GV Prakash Kumar is the music composer while Karthika Srinivas is the editor.
