It is believed that there is a culture of tracing the names of people on a unique wall in Painganadu village from where Kamala Harris's grandfather PV Gopalan hails from.

Following the tradition, Kamala Harris's name is etched on the family temple wall in Painganadu village which happens to be the ancestral village.

It has been widely reported that  Kamala Harris's name was etched on the temple wall as a token of appreciating the contribution made towards the temple by her and her family members.

Tracing the details of Kamala's grandfather, PV Gopalan served as an Indian diplomat. Though he was born in Painganadu village, due to his work he stayed away for his native place.

As per the locals, the Sri Dharmashastha temple in the Painganadu temple is PV Gopalan's family temple and the family members and relatives of the family send donations to run the temple.
