After violent clashes in Delhi, Punjab CM urges farmers to return to borders
Military historian and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who is a strong supporter of the farmersâ agitation against the controversial agricultural bills reacted to the violent incidents reported during the protests on Republic Day.
Reacting to the violent incidents, the Chief Minister has urged the "genuine farmers" to return to the protesting sites at the Delhi borders. The farmers have been protesting against the bills since late November, last year.
Amarinder Singh took to microblogging site Twitter to react to the unprecedented incidents at the protests. He called the violence unacceptable and urged the farmers to vacate the national capital.
"Shocking scenes in Delhi... violence by some elements is unacceptable. It'll negate goodwill generated by peaceful protests. Kisan leaders have disassociated themselves and suspended tractor rally... urge all genuine farmers to vacate Delhi and return to the borders," Amarinder Singâs tweet reads.
As a precautionary measure, the Chief Minister has issued directives to the police personnel of Punjab state to be alert to keep a vigil on the violent incidents.
Earlier today, a group of protesting farmers have barged into the Red Fort complex and climbed on to the poles, and hoisted saffron flags of the Sikh religion. The cops worked hard to vacate the protestors.
