It's been close to four years since the YSRCP came to power in Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, the ruling party faced many setbacks in the courts-both Supreme Court and High Court. Compared to other issues, the Andhra Pradesh government faced many big blows in the Amaravati issue.
Earlier, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh said that the capital city should come in Amaravati and the farmers who gave the lands should be handed over the developed plots. The case is pending with the Supreme Court and the Amaravati farmers are hoping for a positive verdict.
As a rare thing, the Andhra Pradesh government got a big relief in the Amaravati row. Hearing a petition, the High Court gave a positive verdict for the government and refused to impose a stay on the government order.
The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy issued a Government Order to allot land for the poor in the Amaravati region. A few Amaravati farmers moved a petition challenging this. Through the lawyers, the farmers said that the proposal is illegal.
However, the High Court said that a stay cannot be issued on this. The court said that it cannot interfere with the government's policy decision. Having said that, the court postponed the next hearing to April 19 and directed the ruling party and AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) to file a counter.
The Amaravati farmers object that they gave the land to the capital city and that using the land for other uses is not right. We will get clarity on what the court decides next in the next hearing.
